Meet SCCE & HCCA's new CEO, Garth Jordan

Meet SCCE & HCCA's new CEO Garth Jordan!

Why did you accept this role?

As I learned more about SCCE & HCCA, I became interested in how the compliance profession has gained importance over the past few decades. I believe much of that momentum is due to a collective need and desire for a more trustworthy society (which includes the companies that offer products and services to all of us). This thought speaks to a deep purpose for me, personally: building people who build trustworthy companies. And that idea gets me excited!

We know you have an extensive background in association leadership—why are associations so important?

Three of the many reasons that stand out to me are:

  1. Intergenerational collaboration: Associations allow expertise to be passed down and improved within a profession/trade, which helps sustain long-term goals that are relatively immune to outside influences (e.g. shareholders).
  2. Balance: Associations foster highly cooperative relationships to ensure that multiple stakeholders contribute to the outcome.
  3. Pragmatic expertise: Associations provide a platform for enthusiasts and experts to share deep knowledge and evolving techniques outside of academia and inside real-life situations.

Tell us about your top three favorite activities.

Gardening (for the purpose of creating biodiversity around my own neighborhood), city-walking (so many things and places to discover are missed when you're driving or biking), and exercising (although for some reason after 42 years of exercising, its' still  not getting any easier).

What’s one Ted Talk you’d recommend to every member?

Sir Ken Robinson's Ted Talk. It's funny.  It's poignant. Yet, it's hopeful.  If we can find a way to tap into and nourish human creativity at all ages - versus accidentally crushing it with our own systems and behaviors - we will all be better off!

What’s one thing you think is important for us to know about you?

One thing to know about me is that I will never shy away from having fun with good people and a good idea. I love exploring, ideating, and playing in the sandbox.  It's probably why my next career will be teaching Kindergarten.
